Owen Hart Death Video
There are lots of people on the internet claiming that no video evidence of Owen Hart’s fall exists. If you search for the video on YouTube, you’ll find lots of videos claiming to be the Owen Hart fall video, and most of them are just videos of the WWF telecast from that fateful night. The WWF telecast does not show the Owen Hart fall, but the Owen Hart death video does exist. I know this because I was in attendance at Kemper Arena that night, and as you can see, I have proof.
The Owen Hart Fall
On the 23rdof May, 1999, during a WWF pay-per-view event Over the Edge, Owen Hart suffered a fatal fall. The event took place at the Kemper Arena in Kansas City, Missouri, and Hart was slated to wrestle the Godfather for the Intercontinental Championship Belt. The plan was for Hart, wrestling as “the Blue Blazer” character, to be lowered into the ring via a system of ropes and pulleys, but something went horribly wrong. In keeping with the “inept superhero” persona of the Blue Blazer, Hart intended to be lowered partway into the ring before feigning entanglement and falling flat on his face in the center of the ring. This stunt, which Hart had performed the year before, required the use of a quick-relase mechanism. While Hart was preparing to be lowered into the ring, the harness opened, and he fell 78 feet to his death. He was 34 years old.
Who Is To Blame For Owen Hart’s Death?
To the question, “Who is to blame for Owen Hart’s death?”, many answers, some searching, some provoking, others merely facetious, could be given. To begin with, was the WWE fatally negligent in allowing Hart to face plant into the ring from a height of nearly 100 feet? It was alleged by some that the harness Owen was utilizing for the stunt was far more appropriate for a satchel full of tools than for a human being, especially one of Hart’s size. Was the WWE, therefore, simply negligent in pooh-poohing concerns over this harness, and allowing the stunt to continue as planned? Or was the harness, in fact, appropriately designed after all, in more sinister fashion?
How much did the McMahons know about the harness, beyond giving the stunt concerning it the green light, and doing all in the power to allow it to go on? Did they also know about pre-show concerns over the unsuitability of the harness to the human body? Or could they, perhaps, have specifically given their approval to that very harness, in tacit recognition (and, some would add, anticipation) that just such a tragedy that occurred that night could be the eventual result?
There are others, of course, who may be to blame for Hart’s unprecedented face plant into the ring, and subsequent demise. Did the maintenance crew of the Kansas City auditorium furnish the harness to the facility in full knowledge that it would be used in Hart’s ring side stunt? It is alleged that the same members of the stadium’s crew that routinely used such harnesses were among the first to raise concerns over the stunt.
Could there have been other, less widely acknowledged motives behind their doing so? We don’t know the extent of any possible grievances that the maintenance crew (or the employee’s union which represents them) may have had against the WWE, or perhaps against the owners of the auditorium.
Could the rigging of the harness, or its placement in Hart’s hands, have been some sort of “signal” or “message”, not necessarily to Hart or his immediate family, but to his employers, the WWE? Or to their own employers, the owners of the arena itself?
Of course, all such speculation is merely that: speculation without proof, or even the shadow of evidence to back it up. Still, the world of professional wrestling is an eerie, sinister, place, haunted by old ghosts of past performers and the demonic appetites of its current competitors.
there are those, for example, who believe that Hart may have engineered his own fatal face plant down on to the ring, in a bid to escape from the continual degradation of his ring side persona into the cartoonish character that the WWE had designed (some say, “blackmailed and coerced” him) into.
Indeed, it is very interesting that the very harness in question has “disappeared” from the public’s view. Could it currently be residing as ashes at the bottom of a very deep lake? We may never know the truth.
